These words were spoken by the humorist and cartoonist Robert Storm Petersen, and he knew what he was talking about. Storm P. was a passionate pipe smoker. He knew that smoking a pipe is not a complicated science reserved for a small number of initiated aficionados.

The pipe itself is one of the most simple things in the world. A chamber to fill the tobacco into and a pipe to draw the smoke out through – that is all. Puffs as light as a feather are enough to achieve the full enjoyment of the tobacco. Choosing a pipe needn't be a problem either for the beginner. Of course, there

are thousands of pipes in different shapes and sizes on the market, but you will never go wrong if you choose a classic model. Either a curved or a straight pipe. What is important to the smoker is that the pipe has a length that he can manage. Because, the longer the pipe, the milder the smoke. Furthermore, it is nice if the pipe feels good in your hand and is pleasant to touch – and look at. A really nice pipe can be a pleasure in itself, but it is first and foremost a tool. The really good experiences are to be found in the tobacco!

Tastes differ, of course – and there are numerous tobacco blends. But the tobacco dealer is a specialist. He listens to his customers and pass on good experience. Often you can also smell whether a particular tobacco will match your personal taste. Does the blend smell of tobacco – or is a particular plant, for instance the vanilla plant predominant. And always remember, never forget: Smoking a pipe is like the classic pipe itself: simple, uncomplicated and straightforward. A fill of tobacco makes everyday stress easier to bear. A fill of tobacco makes it easier to relax. Or to think about a problem, if necessary. A fill of tobacco gives a feeling of security – and it also tastes good.
